The Reid Brook is an approximately 42 km long tributary of the Labrador Sea in the northeast of the Labrador Peninsula in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The Reid Brook rises 50 km west-southwest of Nain at an altitude of 450  m . It initially flows 20 km in an easterly direction. The Reid Pond is located on the river between river kilometers 27 and 23 . Reid Brook turns south for the lower 20 km. In the lower reaches the river forms numerous river loops . Eventually the Reid Brook reaches Voisey's Bay , 36 km southwest of Nain. The mouth of the Reid Brook is on the northern edge of the delta of the mouth of the Kogluktokoluk Brook, which runs further south . About a kilometer east of the lower reaches of the Reid Brook is the Voisey's Bay Mine , which has been mining nickel since 2005 .

Hydrology

The Reid Brook drains an area of ​​171 km². The mean discharge is 3.27 m³ / s. In June the river carries the largest amount of water with an average of 12.2 m³ / s.

Fish fauna

The arctic char occurs in the lower reaches of the Reid Brook .
