The Reihersee is located southeast of Lüdershausen , a district of the municipality of Brietlingen in the Lower Saxony district of Lüneburg . The lake is 500 meters wide, 1.1 kilometers long and has an area of ​​around 30 hectares . At its deepest point, the lake descends 4 meters. At its north-western end, the lake is crossed by the B 209 .

Surrounding places are Artlenburg (about 3.3 km from the lake), Echem (4.4 km to the shore) and Barum (about 4.6 km away). The next larger town is Adendorf. The lakes Rohrsee (approx. 2.3 km), Metzensee (approx. 2.9 km) and Barumer See (approx. 3.8 km) are also very close by .

The recreation area "Reihersee" lies on the banks of the lake-like extensive Neetze and is popular with tourists. The lake is a natural swimming lake. The bathing season begins in May under the supervision of the DLRG. The Reihersee is traversed by the Neetze and thus constantly supplied with fresh water. In a measurement in 2014 by bodies of the European Union, the lake received the grade “excellent”.
