Reiner Reineccius , or Reinhard Reineck (born May 15, 1541 in Steinheim in the prince-bishopric of Paderborn , † April 16, 1595 in Helmstedt ) was a German historian.

Life

In 1578 he became professor of history at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) . From there he followed the call to Helmstedt University .

His work “Syntagma de familiis quae in monarchiis tribus prioribus rerum potitae sunt” (4 vols., Basel 1574–1580) and the later revision and expansion of the same “Historia Julia sive syntagma versticum” (Helmstedt 1594–97) made him famous. Häberlein published “De Reineccius meritis im historiam” (Helmstedt 1746) about his work. In later literature and in the history of the town of Steinheim, the medieval historian is also called Reiner Reineccius Steinhemius.

He did a great job researching the history of antiquity and is considered the greatest son of the town of Steinheim , which named a street in his honor. A large autumn fair, the Reineccius market, has been named in his honor since 2007 and is to take place annually from now on. In addition, the city of Steinheim has been awarding the Reiner Reineccius Medal since 2008 for people who, as "lateral thinkers and pioneers" in the spirit of Reiner Reineccius, behave against the zeitgeist.
