Reinhard Arnold Houben (born April 29, 1960 in Bensberg ) is a German politician ( FDP ) and entrepreneur . He has been a member of the Bundestag since 2017 and is the economic policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group.

education and profession

Reinhard Houben graduated in business administration in Siegen in 1983 with a degree in business administration. Since 1984 he has been the managing partner of Arnold Houben GmbH, a medium-sized trading company in Cologne-Rodenkirchen.

Houben is married and has two grown sons. The family lives in Cologne-Riehl.

Political party

Reinhard Houben has been a member of the FDP since 1983. In the course of his political work, he took on various offices with the Young Liberals , the FDP and the Association of Liberal Local Politicians . From 2000 to 2011 he was chairman of the FDP district association in Cologne, and since 2012 he has been chairman of the FDP district association in Cologne. Since 2004 he has been a member of the state board of the FDP North Rhine-Westphalia .

He was a member of the Cologne City Council from 1989 to 1994 and from 2009 to 2017 . From 1989 to 1994 he was Chairman of the Audit Committee. From 2009 to 2015 he was the economic policy spokesman for the FDP council group and chairman of the economic committee. From 2014 to 2017 he was the transport policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group.

In the 2017 federal election , Houben was elected a member of the 19th German Bundestag . He ran for election in the Cologne I constituency (districts Porz and Kalk and, from the city center district, the districts Deutz, Altstadt / Nord and Neustadt / Nord). He entered the 19th Bundestag via the FDP state list (8th place) . Since January 2018 he has been a member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy and economic policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Network Agency and sat on the Koelnmesse Supervisory Board from 2014 to 2018 . Reinhard Houben is regarded as a sharp critic of the politics of Economics Minister Peter Altmaier .
