The Familienunternehmer eV (written in capital letters ), formerly the working group of self-employed entrepreneurs (ASU), is an interest group of German family entrepreneurs , which according to its own information represents 6,000 members. The association is based in Berlin , where the federal office is also located. Reinhold von Eben-Worlée, managing partner of EH Worlée & Co. GmbH & Co. KG, has been president of the association since 2017. The association is registered with the German Bundestag as an interest group .

history

The association was founded in 1949 under the name Arbeitsgemeinschaft Selbständiger Unternehmer (ASU) as a market economy-oriented association for family businesses. The aim of the founding members was to impart entrepreneurial knowledge to political decision-makers and to promote the economic development of Germany. In May 2007 the name was changed to Die Familienunternehmer - ASU . In May 2009 the association celebrated its 60th anniversary on the Petersberg near Bonn. Since September 2016, the association has been using the name Die Familienunternehmer without the addition ASU .

organization structure

The association is divided into 46 regional districts and 16 state areas. At the federal level, the members are involved in various commissions on company-relevant issues in the association's decision-making process. An intranet promotes the exchange between the members and the association's committees. It supports its members in corporate management through its own educational offers.

The members are owner-entrepreneurs. Requirements for membership are an annual turnover of one million euros and at least 10 employees as well as an entry in the commercial register. The association only includes family entrepreneurs through personal membership. In public statements and interviews, his previous President Patrick Adenauer clearly distinguished himself from companies run by employed managers.

The 6,000 members come from all industries. They employ around 2 million people and generate annual sales of around 460 billion euros (as of 2016). The association is a member of the European umbrella organization European Family Businesses (EFB). Until 2001, the business magazine was the association organ. The association includes family entrepreneurs from BMW , Merck and the Oetker Group .

The young entrepreneurs form the unincorporated subsidiary association, to which all members up to the age of 40 belong.

The association is a co-initiator of the Jena Alliance for the Renewal of the Social Market Economy .

Positions

According to the company, the political orientation is under the motto "Freedom, Property, Competition and Responsibility".

With regard to the labor market, the association speaks out against encroachments on entrepreneurial freedom, which would make it more difficult to create jobs. Instead, the association is calling for politicians to step up efforts to reduce bureaucracy and secure skilled workers. The association is also committed to continuing the integration of older people into the labor market. In cooperation with the Center for European Economic Research , the association presented an expert opinion in June 2014 that analyzes the effects of the labor market and social policy projects of the current federal government on the employment situation of older people.

A key requirement for social policy is to raise the retirement age.

In European policy, the association demands that the principle of risk and liability be observed. The association strictly rejects permanent transfer payments and the communitisation of national debts at European level.

The association stands up against higher taxes and contributions for employers and employees. For example, plans have been criticized to abolish the preferential treatment for family-run businesses with inheritance tax. In addition, the association speaks out against the inclusion of rent and lease costs in the trade tax and against the tax discrimination of equity versus debt. The demands also include the alleviation of the cold progression, the abolition of the solidarity surcharge and the restructuring of corporate tax law . The association is critical of political demands for the reintroduction of a wealth tax .

In March 2016 - and thus immediately before the upcoming state elections in Baden-Württemberg , Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt - he warned against votes for the AfD party, which is considered right-wing populist . President Goebel justified it as follows: It “abuses the fears of many people in order [...] to expose our society's values to erosion. We don't just want [...] to watch. "

In 2017, the association campaigned against a transparency register . In the opinion of the association, neither journalists nor non-governmental organizations should have access to the register.
