Reinhard Kleindl

Reinhard Kleindl (* 1980 in Graz ) is an Austrian author and athlete.

Life

Reinhard Kleindl was born in Graz and studied theoretical physics at the Karl Franzens University . The first literary publications were made during school and university studies. In 2004 he completed his studies with a diploma.

He then worked as a sports climbing trainer at the City Adventure Center Graz and began writing as a freelance journalist on science topics in 2006. At around the same time he came into contact with the trend sport slackline . This was followed by intensive occupation with all variants of slacklining. In 2009 he took part in his first international competition, the Natural Games Millau , and took second place. This was followed by a second and a third place in the overall ranking of the Austrian Slackline Open (2011, 2012). Between 2004 and 2012 Kleindl published short stories from the fields of science fiction and fantasy in various magazines, one of them in Polish.

Kleindl's highline inspections on the Three Peaks , together with Armin Holzer, attracted international attention , with the two of them spanning and committing a highline on each pinnacle near the summit. During this time, Kleindl was under contract with Adidas Outdoor and earned his living by slacklining. In 2013 Kleindl realized a highline on the 4000 m high Mt. Kinabalu on Borneo .

In 2014, Kleindl published his first crime novel “Geanned” with Haymon Verlag . In autumn 2014 Kleindl and Lukas Irmler from Freising succeeded in crossing the Victoria Falls for the first time on a slackline. In 2015 his second crime novel "Baumgartner und die Brandstifter" was published. In the same year Kleindl started an alpine highline between the dirndls on the Dachstein together with the Viennese slackliner Igor Scotland . In 2016, Kleindl's third detective novel "Baumgartner can not forget" was published.

In October 2017, Kleindl started freediving , which he is now doing competitively.

On March 13, 2020, Kleindl received the Fine Crime Award endowed with 5,000 euros as part of the Fine Crime Festival in Graz - for a new case by investigator Anja Grabner.
