Reinhard Marx (* 1946 in Paderborn ) is a German lawyer .

life and work

After completing secondary school, Marx initially worked for the German Armed Forces for four years as a musician (clarinet) and from 1968 to 1973 he was a police officer for the Hamburg police force . During the police service he obtained his Abitur in evening high school and began studying law in 1974. In 1977 he was recognized as a conscientious objector . On July 25, 1983, he was first admitted to the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court .

Marx's main focus is on the law of conscientious objection in Germany as well as the law on foreigners and asylum . In the latter subject area, he has published a number of specialist books as an author and - especially more recently - as an editor.

Marx has been involved in the German section of Amnesty International since he was a student . From 1976 to 1978 he was on the board responsible for refugee work, from 1983 to 1987 he was board spokesman for the German section.

In May 2016, he was heard before the Interior Committee of the German Bundestag as an expert on the classification of North African countries as safe countries of origin.
