Reinhard Stockmann

Reinhard Stockmann (born April 25, 1955 in Bürstadt ) is a German sociologist and university professor at the Saarland University . He is the founder and director of the Center for Evaluation (CEval) as well as the founder and director of the advanced training course “Master Evaluation” at Saarland University. He is also the initiator and managing editor of the Journal for Evaluation and a founding member of DeGEval - Society for Evaluation eV

Life

Stockmann studied from 1976 to 1982 at the University of Mannheim , the subjects Sociology , Social Psychology , History and Political Science . He completed his studies with a diploma in sociology. From 1983 Stockmann was a research assistant at the chair for methods of empirical social research and applied sociology at the University of Mannheim and worked on the research project "Comparative analyzes of social structure with mass data". In 1986 he received his doctorate and in 1995 he qualified as a professor in sociology. After completing his doctorate, Stockmann worked in 1986/1987 as a consultant in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development for development cooperation with the countries of Venezuela , Colombia , Panama and Mexico . In October 1987 Stockmann became a research assistant at the chair for methods of empirical social research and applied sociology at the University of Mannheim, until he accepted a professorship for sociology at the Saarland University in 1995. In 1996 he also became a university lecturer at the University of Mannheim. In January 1997, Stockmann took over a C4 professorship for sociology at Saarland University and has been the managing director of the Institute for Sociology ever since.

Research priorities

Stockmann's research interests include sociology and politics in developing countries, development cooperation, educational, work and organizational sociology as well as theories and methods of evaluation research and professionalization of evaluation . In addition to carrying out evaluation projects , Stockmann has developed and implemented monitoring and evaluation systems for development cooperation projects in countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

In 2002 he founded the Center for Evaluation (CEval) at Saarland University , which he has headed ever since. As part of the CEval, evaluation projects are carried out on the one hand, and research is carried out on the conceptual and methodological development of the evaluation on the other hand, as well as advice and training and further education on the subject of evaluation . Since 2001 he has also been the editor of the “Social Science Evaluation Research” series at Waxmann Verlag and since 2002 managing editor of the “Journal for Evaluation”. With the significant participation of Stockmann, the University of Saarland and the University of Applied Sciences of Saarland developed the inter-university interdisciplinary course "Master Evaluation", which was introduced at Saarland University in the winter semester 2004/05 as the first evaluation course in Germany. Stockmann is also a founding member of DeGEval - Gesellschaft für Evaluation eV (1997) and has been the head of various DeGEval working groups for years (including "Evaluation of Development Policy").
