From 1976 until his diploma in 1980, Föst studied at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences in the field of design and communication design with a focus on writing and typography with Prof. Beck. From 1981 to 1991 he worked in the field of applied art and design in publishing and advertising media. From 1992 to 1996 Föst had a teaching position for graphic techniques at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. He has been working as a freelance visual artist since 1992.

During his studies he dealt very intensively with the formal laws of letters and writing. A major inspiration for the development of his artistic language came from an art movement of the 1950s, Lettrism . Consequently, his first solo exhibition in 1993 was strictly characterized by typographical presentations with often legible messages.

Since the late 1990s, Föst has seen an increasing trend towards conceptual work and three-dimensionality . He used the available media and formats of visual arts: installation , photography and sculptures . Art in public space developed into one of his main areas of activity. With his art network, he also concentrated on art concepts in the corporate sector.

Between 2006 and 2008 Föst could be seen throughout Germany with his temporary art project “Unique”.

Föst worked with the vocabulary of the classical geometric design language and the design principle of Western writing. He intended to formulate a field of energy and tension with art.
