Reinhold Rieke

Reinhold Rieke (born November 13, 1881 in Riga ; † 1945 ) was a German chemist and ceramicist .

Professional career

Rieke studied in Freiburg, his inaugural dissertation on the subject of the three iodobenzaldehydes and derivatives thereof, in particular some iodinium compounds derived from them, was published in 1905 in Freiburg im Breisgau . From the summer semester of 1920, Rieke gave lectures on ceramics at the Technical University of Berlin . From April 1, 1921 to 1934 worked in the chemistry and metallurgy department as a lecturer for ceramics at the Technical University of Berlin. From the beginning of the winter semester 1934 to 1945 he worked in the field of chemical technology at the Technical University of Berlin. From July 27, 1922 he was associate professor and at the same time head of the ceramics laboratory of the chemical-technical research institute at the State Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin and first lecturer for ceramics. On October 26, 1939, he was appointed adjunct professor. Rieke died during the Second World War.

German Ceramic Society

In 1920 Rieke was a member of the first board of directors of the German Ceramic Society (DKG) and from that year until his death secretary of the association magazine: Reports of the DKG . In 1930 he was awarded the Seger plaque of the DKG, which is awarded for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of ceramics. In his honor, the German Ceramic Society has been awarding the Rieke Ring since 1953 to those members who have done outstanding work for the DKG in voluntary work.
