It was first broadcast on October 9, 2019 on ORF 2 . The film was shown at the Film Festival Cologne on October 14, 2019. The film was first shown on ZDF on October 21, 2019.

action

In their ninth joint case, the investigators Micha Oberländer from Lindau and Hannah Zeiler from Bregenz are called to the shores of Lake Constance , where Sybille Baumgartner was found stabbed in the shallow water. She practiced the swimming sport mermaiding , in which one tries to move with a monofin like a mermaid in the water. Matteo Kern, a young water sports enthusiast who belongs to a group of kite surfers who set up camp near the location where they were found, is suspected of having escaped with a stab in his stomach. At first it is unclear whether he is the perpetrator, or whether he witnessed the crime and should therefore also fall victim to Sybille's murderer.

Some of the surfers, including Georg Ebener, an old acquaintance of Oberländer, were investigated some time ago for robbery on boats, but the charges were dropped. The raids always took place at the time when the surfers were present on Lake Constance. At that time, a search was made for a fast boat with an outboard motor and traces of fire, these came from a shot from a signal pistol of one of the victims.

In addition to looking for Matteo, Oberländer and Zeiler investigate the family circumstances of the victim who left their husband Fabian and their daughter Emma in the winery with a starred restaurant in Wasserburg . Fabian and Sybille were separated, Emma suspects her father to have something to do with the murder because he often argued with her mother. Sybille had a relationship with Matteo, Fabian an affair with Heidi Riegler, the tenant of the restaurant where Sybille was the cook. Fabian's brother Ekkehardt claims to have been with him in the vineyard at the time of the crime. Matteo was previously in a relationship with Frederike Wolf, she also has an alibi.

Komlatschek suffers a gunshot wound in the shoulder from Matteo while searching for Matteo Kern, during which they also discover the speedboat with an outboard motor that the robberies are looking for near his hiding place. The weapon is registered to Fabian Baumgartner. Its gun safe was not broken into, but the whole family knew the code.

The investigators learn from Riegler that she was only managing director of the restaurant on paper; Ekkehardt Baumgartner actually ran the business and handled the winery's business through the restaurant in order to save taxes. According to the harbor master, Ekkehardt Baumgartner's Lady Sunshine boat was moved exactly once a month. The investigators suspect that Ekkehardt had used it to transfer black money via Lake Constance to Switzerland. The theory is supported by the fuel consumption, as evidenced by the customer account at the boat filling station. The tax office confirms that for years the winery itself has only produced enough to cover the lifestyle. In one of these transfers, the three surfers Georg Ebener, Frederike Wolf and Matteo Kern attacked Ekkehardt and stole his black money suitcase and his brother's weapon.

Sybille knew about her brother-in-law Ekkehardt's illegal business; She informed the surfers about the times when he made his tour of the lake. Ekkehardt, in turn, knew that he had his sister-in-law to thank for the attack on Sunshine . He also wanted to become a winemaker himself, but lost his sense of smell and taste in an accident caused by his brother at a young age. After a confession, Ekkehardt locks his brother Sebastian in the cellar and flees. Matteo succumbs to his injuries after Ebener steps on the person lying on the ground. Georg Ebener kidnaps Emma and takes her hostage before meeting with Ekkehardt to hand over the money. Ebener is supposed to go into hiding so that the police will mistake him for the murderer of Sybille. Before Ebener can receive the money he is shot by Ekkehardt. Emma can be freed by the police, and Ekkehardt Baumgartner is finally arrested.

reception

Reviews

Volker Bergmeister from tittelbach.tv found that the story seemed a bit overloaded, but the staging was good craft. “A particular strength of this crime thriller is that it takes time for the private stories of the investigators, takes them seriously and doesn't just see them as accessories. The interaction between Nora Waldstätten and Matthias Koeberlin raises this crime thriller of the series, which is very popular and reliably serves its fan base, above average. "

Wilfried Geldner said in the Weser Kurier that the resolution would be “very tortured and wounded. There is a lot of talk, unfortunately sometimes acoustically to the point of being incomprehensible. "

Martin Seng wrote onquotemeter.de that the investigators' characters were exciting and that the actual case initially looked interesting. The episode would quickly collapse and not make a good detective story. The search for the mermaid's killer is only a small vortex instead of a big wave.

Audience rating

The first broadcast on ZDF on October 21, 2019 reached 6.32 million viewers, the market share was 20.3 percent.
