Sam Davis (* 1964 in New York City , New York , United States ) is a German - American film producer .

Life

After studying at the University of Southern California and the University of California in Los Angeles , Sam Davis began his career at 20th Century Fox . He then founded the company Insight Out Films in order to realize his documentary film Why we are here (“Why we are here”) in Frankfurt in 1992 for the BBC and WDR .

From 1993 to 1998 Davis headed the TV Movies department at RTL , where he was responsible for the development and production of around 100 TV films.

In 1998 he joined the Cologne production company Zeitsprung as a partner and co-managing director , where he produced event films, TV films and series.

In September 2000 his book "Quota Fever" was published in the "Book & Media" series by Bastei Lübbe (Ed. Béatrice Ottersbach, translated from English into German by Cécile G. Lecaux).

In 2004 Davis took over the management of the fiction department at Endemol Germany. Here he was responsible for productions such as love without a return ticket , Mr. Nanny - A man for mom and the two-part London, love, dovecote .

Davis has been running Rowboat Film and TV Production since 2010 , which he founded with Jan Mojtos Beta Film in January. The company's first film, Das Wunder von Kärnten , premiered in 2011 at the Hamburg Film Festival and was nominated for the producer's award in the 16: 9 section. It was first broadcast on television on January 18, 2012 on ORF and was the most successful film of the year in Austria with more than 1 million viewers. In Germany, the film was broadcast for the first time on ZDF on March 5, 2012, with over 5 million viewers . With Das Wunder von Kärnten , Sam Davis won the International Emmy Award for Rowboat in 2013 . In addition to various individual pieces Sam Davis produced since then by rowboat series and series such as The dead from Lake Constance and Professor T. .
