The dead from Lake Constance - The returner is a German-Austrian ORF / ZDF - TV film director Hannu Salonen from the year 2018 . This is the sixth part of the crime series Die Toten vom Bodensee . It was first broadcast on ORF on January 13, 2018 and on ZDF on January 22, 2018.

action

Investigator Hannah Zeiler lets the idea that her father, Attorney General Dr. Hermann Zeiler, who could still be alive after a sailing accident over twenty years ago, is not in peace and she is investigating. When she wants to meet someone on Gallows Island because of this , it ends in a new case. Zeiler is knocked down and found unconscious here, her informant, Johannes Leitner, was shot. The projectile in the dead man's head comes from Zeiler's service weapon. Zeiler's godfather, former mentor and head of the investigation, Ernst Gschwendner, assumes a suicide. The later examination by forensic medicine does not confirm this assumption, because there is Leitner's blood and hair on the weapon, so that it can be assumed that Leitner was knocked down with the weapon and that a third person was on the island. Hannah Zeiler reports to Gschwendner that she thought she saw her father.

Leitner was recently released from more than 20 years of imprisonment and Zeiler seeks Gabor Drillich, Leitner's last cellmate. Drillich, who was convicted of forging documents, reports Zeiler of a long-term pen friendship with Leitner. Sabine Reubach can be identified as this friend and she is now suspected of having murdered Leitner out of jealousy because he did not want to know anything about her after she was released from prison. Commissioner Micha Oberländer has doubts and tells Hannah Zeiler that he also saw her father on Gallows Island. He suspects that her father shot Leitner. Leitner tracked down Hermann Zeiler, blackmailed him and had to pay for this with his life. Hannah Zeiler tries to remember the sailing accident, and it appears in her memory that her mother was initially rescued, but later drowned anyway. After Oberländer and Zeiler tell their theory to the head of the investigation, Gschwendner, the latter threatens Hannah Zeiler, as she is personally involved, with disciplinary action if she should continue investigating the case.

But Zeiler does not let himself be stopped and finds out together with Oberländer that Gschwendner is trying to cover up something and has something to do with the disappearance of Hermann Zeiler. In an old murder case from Vienna, the investigations of Chief Public Prosecutor Hermann Zeiler were stopped without the body, Brigitte Haas, being autopsied. The heir was then an Oliver Wallner, whose documents have now been found with Johannes Leitner. Sabine Reubach later received the murder victim's necklace as a gift from Johannes Leitner.

Hannah Zeiler confronts Gschwendner with the fact that he pulled her mother out of the lake in front of her eyes and then drowned her behind her back because she had found out everything at the time. Via a clerk at the regional court, Gschwendner and Hermann Zeiler found Brigitte Haas as a rich, single person without an heir. Johannes Leitner had murdered people like Brigitte Haas on behalf of Gschwendner and Hermann Zeiler in order to then take over their inheritance. Gschwendner had recorded a natural death on site, Hermann Zeiler had inherited under the false name of Oliver Wallner. After Leitner was caught, he was jailed for his final murder and Hermann Zeiler went into hiding.

Hermann Zeiler shoots Gabor Drillich because he fears that Drillich could endanger him with his knowledge of Zeiler's second identity as Oliver Wallner and that he would also be blackmailed. At that time Drillich had also forged documents for Hermann Zeiler. Oberländer and Hannah Zeiler meet their father at Drillich's, where he is shot by Oberländer when Zeiler aims at his daughter because she doesn't just want to let him go, as he had imagined. Gschwendner is arrested, Drillich wants to testify against him.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv found that the third contribution by director Hannu Salonen was the best film in the series so far. The film presents the answers to the questions that author Timo Berndt has repeatedly asked since he was responsible for the scripts. With this film, the story of Hannah Zeiler and the disappearance of her father, which Berndt started in the Stille Wasser part , will be brought to an end - albeit to an end with horror. The film develops more and more into a fascinating crime thriller, especially after it becomes clear what machinations the former public prosecutor Zeiler, Gschwendner and the dead from Galgeninsel are involved in. Despite dramaturgical weaknesses and unnecessary detours, this film is the best episode so far. The image design and the music were also expressly praised.

Matthias Hannemann also praises the sixth part of the crime series in the FAZ , especially the actors and the pull that develops towards the end.

Audience rating

In Germany, the first broadcast on ZDF was seen by 8.01 million people and thus reached the highest number of viewers in the series to date, the market share was 24.4 percent.
