Reinhold Schröder

Reinhold Schröder (born March 28, 1932 in Lünen ) is a German sculptor who lives and works in his hometown. Through his artistic work, he helped shape the image of his hometown and, with many works of art, worked far beyond Lünen and Germany.

life and work

Schröder learned the craft of stonemasonry in his father's workshop. His artistic talent led him to attend the Werkkunstschule Dortmund , he received his graduation in 1954 and in the same year passed the master's examination as a stonemason and sculptor. He completed his subsequent studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf in 1958 when he was appointed master class . After that, a variety of sculptural works were created for sacred and public spaces. Among other things, he designed the interior of the St. Marien Hospital in Lünen and the doors to the council meeting room of the city of Lünen.

His works can be seen in Berlin, Dorsten, Dortmund, Essen, Fulda, Hamm, Hanover, Münster, Meschede and Recklinghausen as well as in Rome and London. The bronze sculpture “Challenge” in the inner courtyard of the Canisius-Kolleg , Berlin, also comes from him.

Honors

The city of Lünen awarded him the City of Lünen 2008 Culture Prize on October 19, 2008. The jury recognized his work with the following words: Reinhold Schröder's artistic work is characterized by a powerful depiction of religious and profane themes in a convincing contemporary language.
