The Werkkunstschule Dortmund was a training center for craftsmen and artists , and later also for designers and photo designers , interior designers and architects .

history

As early as 1868 there was a building trade class of the municipal trade school and from 1894/95 the technical school for building tradesmen . From the 1904 founded, urban, state-sponsored trade school, the developed Arts and Crafts School , then Master School of the designing craft and finally in 1956 the Werkkunstschule Dortmund , the 1963 Municipal Higher Technical School of Design was and in the August 1, 1971 Fachhochschule Dortmund opened.

After the Second World War, the Werkkunstschule was located in the former Buddenburg Castle in Lünen-Lippholthausen from 1946 to 1955 . After that, it was housed in the existing school building at Ottostraße 9 in Dortmund, the former Hoesch training workshop. The spatial separation of the departments took place during the move to the disposal center on August-Schmidt-Straße (Department of Architecture) and Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 (Department of Design). Up until the demolition of the building on Ottostraße in 1976, the name University of Dortmund , Department of Architecture and Department of Design could be read on the facade.
