Carlernst Kürten (born April 17, 1921 in Waltrop , † December 29, 2000 in Unna ) was a German sculptor .

life and work

Carlernst Kürten worked as a freelance sculptor since 1957 - after training as a sculptor and studying at the Werkkunstschulen Dortmund and Münster . From 1968 onwards, Kürten mainly designed works in chrome-nickel steel . At the same time, he created wood and bronze sculptures and wood prints . Large open-air sculptures and open space designs by Carlernst Kürten can be found in Bochum , Dortmund , Düren , Hagen , Hamm , Holzwickede , Kamen , Kiel , Kleve , Lüdenscheid , Mannheim , Opladen , Unna and Wuppertal ; Stainless steel sculptures also in museums and in private collections. Numerous solo exhibitions and participations in exhibitions at home and abroad are documented in catalogs.

In the last years of his life he also devoted himself to painting and graphics. A larger than life sculpture of Christ - wood, shot through, framed in black - has been in the field stone church of the Oderbruch village of Alt Mahlisch , in whose churchyard Carlernst Kürten is buried , since 1995 . In the spring of 2002 the city of Unna in Alte Heide founded the Carlernst-Kürten-Stiftung, named after its respected constructivist , which opened its ambitious exhibition program in June 2002 with the exhibition of sculptures and graphics by Carlernst Kürten .
