Lothar Kampmann

Lothar Kampmann (* 1925 in Aachen , † 1993 in Kamen ) was a German painter and sculptor .

Lothar Kampmann grew up in Kamen and studied sculpture at the Werkkunstschule Dortmund after military service, injuries and imprisonment . From 1950 to 1954 he studied art education at the State Art School in Mainz .

After working as a teacher at the Dortmund City High School , he initially received a teaching position at the Dortmund University of Education (now the Technical University of Dortmund ). In 1964 he became an associate professor and in 1968 a full professor at the chair for art and didactics at the same university. In 1975 he founded the art laboratory at the University of Dortmund.

One of Kampmann's special achievements is certainly his relatively early, sometimes controversial, but also successful endeavor to establish art in public spaces in the “culture-less” Ruhr area , often including topics from the industrial or craft world, but also works in the sense of international understanding designed.
