Hans P. Koellmann

Hans P. Koellmann (born November 8, 1908 in Barmen , † 1992 in Dortmund ) was a German architect and professor (director) at the Werkkunstschule Dortmund .

Live and act

Koellmann studied architecture at the Technical University of Stuttgart and then worked in various areas of transport, in international exhibition construction and in industrial construction. He had some success in architectural competitions .

Koellmann was temporarily employed by Rudolf Schwarz in Cologne.

In 1947 he became a lecturer for architectural building and interior design at the Saarbrücken School for Art and Crafts . In 1948 he succeeded Gabriel Guevrekian as head of the building class at this school. 1949–1953 he carried out the reconstruction and expansion of the baroque orphanage on Ludwigsplatz for the School of Arts and Crafts .

Koellmann was a member of the Deutscher Werkbund and, from 1956, an editorial assistant for the magazine “ baukunst und werkform ”.

From 1957 to 1971 he was director of the Werkkunstschule Dortmund .

In 1969 Koellmann was responsible for the rescue of the machine hall of the Zeche Zollern II / IV in Dortmund-Bövinghausen, he prevented the demolition by calling on the experts and thus gave a significant impetus for the protection of industrial monuments . In 1988 he was awarded the “ Silver Hemisphere ” by the German National Committee for Monument Protection for this initiative .
