Rice field art is an art form in which farmers plant their rice fields in such a way that large-format pictures are created.

history

In 1993, to revive the village of Inakadate in the northern Japanese prefecture of Aomori, a field behind the town hall was planted with different types of rice so that a picture was created. A 22 meter high observation tower was erected to view this picture. As early as 2006, this work of art attracted more than 200,000 paying visitors.

In 2015 a video camera was installed to stream the fields live. In the winter of 2016, the snow artist Simon Beck created a snow art work in the village.
