Rider pass

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rider pass is a riding badge in Austria that is issued by the Federal Association for Riding and Driving in Austria (FENA). According to §1404 of the Austrian Tournament Regulations (ÖTO) "[the rider's pass] certifies that the holder is able to ride a horse in the field and that he has mastered the relevant regulations."

Examination and requirements

The test for the rider pass (so-called "special test") consists of three sub-tests. First, one of two alternative dressage tasks (R1, R2) must be taken and passed. Second, an off-road section of at least 600 meters with four obstacles must be covered; the obstacles must be at least 70 centimeters high and include two natural obstacles. Third, an oral or written theoretical examination must be taken. The special tests are organized by the Austrian regional professional associations. The number of exam attempts is not limited.

In addition to passing the special test, the prerequisites for acquiring the rider pass are 8 years of age by the end of the test year (i.e. December 31) and membership in an association that is affiliated to an (Austrian) regional professional association.

The acquisition of the rider's pass is a prerequisite for being able to take the next higher riding badge of the FENA - the so-called rider's needle . There must be a period of at least six weeks between the two exams.

The rider pass is sometimes required as proof of ability to be able to rent horses.
