Hermann Friedrich Friedrich
Hermann Friedrich Friedrich (born May 2, 1828 in Groß Vahlberg ; † April 13, 1890 in Plauen ) was a German writer and journalist.
Life and work
Friedrich was the son of a preacher. He initially received home tuition from his father and from the age of ten attended high school in Wolfenbüttel, where he passed his Abitur in 1847. According to his father's wishes, Friedrich was supposed to become a theologian and studied theology and philosophy in Göttingen , Halle and Jena , but became more and more interested in literary history and history. During his studies in 1848 he became a member of the Hercynia Göttingen Progreß fraternity and the fraternity association at the Burgkeller in Jena. In Halle he attended Robert Prutz's lectures , in Jena he gave up his theology studies and was awarded a Dr. phil. doctorate, and since 1853 devoted himself to the job of journalist. Friedrich found a job as an editor at the renowned Illustrirten Zeitung in Leipzig. From 1856 Friedrich worked on Gutzkows family magazine Entertainments at the domestic stove . He caused a sensation in 1857 with his liberal tendency novel The Orthodox , with which he made his debut as a novelist.
From 1853 to 1867 Friedrich lived and worked in Leipzig, worked for many years on the board of the Leipzig Writers' Association , worked for years on the board of the German Schiller Foundation and continued his commitment to literary professional organizations when he went to Berlin in 1867. Here he became chairman of the Berlin Press Association . Friedrich stayed in Berlin until 1872, then moved to Eisenach, returned to Leipzig in 1876, where the General German Writers' Association was founded at his suggestion, of which Friedrich was chairman until 1885. In 1885 he moved to Dresden, where he died in neighboring Plauen in 1890.
Friedrich wrote numerous popular short stories and was one of the most widely read authors of his time. He was an author of student literature and was also very successful in the field of crime history and crime novel . Major historical and social novels are also part of his work. His services to the early advocacy of authors in Germany, writers and journalists alike, cannot be overlooked, but have not been adequately researched.
Friedrich was married to the writer Emmy von Rhoden . Their daughter Else Wildhagen also worked as a writer.
