Rela Mazali

Rela Mazali ( Hebrew : רלה מזלי; born 1948 in Ma'ayan Baruch ) is an Israeli peace activist and author. She is one of the most important people in the Israeli peace movement .

Life

She was born in Kibbutz Ma'ayan Baruch in northern Israel in 1948 . Her mother emigrated to Israel from Kansas City in the United States with Zionist motivation . Mazali grew up in Tel Aviv . There she studied philosophy and comparative literature at Tel Aviv University .

Since 1980 she has been active as an anti-militarist against the militarization of Israel and the military occupation of Palestine. In 1998 she was one of the co-founders of the feminist movement New Profile , which campaigns against the militarization of Israel and supports conscientious objectors . In 2010 she founded Gun Free Kitchen Tables (GFKT), a disarmament and weapons control project . She also worked for Physicians for Human Rights-Israel and had an advisory role for the International Red Cross and the Ford Foundation .

Mazali writes books, essays, academic articles and short stories on equality , children's rights and peace education .

She was one of 1000 women who were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 as part of the 1000 PeaceWomen project .
