Bull "Religiosam vitam" of December 22nd, 1216

Religiosam vitam is a papal bull from Pope Honorius III. , with which he confirmed or supplemented the rule of the Dominicans on December 22, 1216 .

The religious order of the Dominicans had in the years 1215-1216 more convents in Rome , Paris and Bologna founded. The order adopted the rule of Augustine , which goes back to St. Augustine . With the bull Religiosam vitam, the life of the Dominicans was prescribed according to this rule and the general chapter was granted the power to pass laws and pass resolutions. The general chapter had to take place at fixed intervals and in central locations.

After the recognition of the order by the Bishop of Toulouse (1215) followed with the papal confirmation with the bull, only a short time later the Dominicans received the privilege of preaching (order of preachers ) and the mandate to preach the Gospel .
