Rembrandt (born March 15, 1977 ; † October 30, 2001 ) was a Westphalian gelding and a dressage horse that was successful at international tournaments around the world .
Rembrandt, ridden by Nicole Uphoff , was - among numerous other successes - Olympic champion in Seoul in 1988 and in Barcelona in 1992 . Both times he achieved both individual gold and a gold medal with the team. He also entered the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta again , but was withdrawn from the competition prematurely by Nicole Uphoff due to a muscle strain. On October 30, 2001 the brown gelding had to be euthanized due to osteoarthritis .
