Remigius Faesch (also Remy Faesch , Ruman Faesch ) (* around 1460 in Basel ; † 1533 or 1534 in Thann , Alsace) was a late Gothic builder. His most important work is the spire of the Thann Minster in Alsace.

Live and act

Remigius Faesch was the son of the Basel stonemason Nikolaus Faesch and appears for the first time in the springs as a stonemason in 1476 . In 1487 he became the municipal foreman of Basel, where he built secular and sacred buildings such as the “Zunfthaus zum Schlüssel” (1486–1488), the “Engelhof” and the choir vault of the Basel Charterhouse (1488).

Around 1491 he went to Thann as a master builder for the cathedral, where he completed his main work in 1506–1516. In addition, the vaults of the central aisle and the north aisle in the Thanner Münster come from him.

In 1503 he became a master builder for the cathedral in Basel, but stayed in Thann and left no traces of his work at the Basel cathedral. In 1506 he was called in as an expert in the construction of the Bern Minster .
