Traugott Geering

Traugott Geering (born February 21, 1859 in Basel ; † August 13, 1932 there ) was a Swiss economist and historian .

Life

Traugott Geering, son of the head of the apostolic congregation in Basel, studied history, economics and philosophy in Basel, Leipzig and Berlin from 1878 to 1882 . In 1882 he received his doctorate. phil. 1885–1887 he was the city archivist in Cologne . 1887-1896 he headed the department for trade statistics at the federal government (Oberzolldirektion). 1896-1919 he was the first full-time secretary of the Basel Chamber of Commerce. In 1897 he also became a private lecturer at the University of Basel .

Geering published fundamental works on national economy and the economic history of Switzerland and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel in 1932 for his scientific merits.
