Remigius Kleesatel

Remigius Kleesatel (* 1717 in Böhmenkirch ; † July 22, 1783 in Oberried (Breisgau) ) was a German Benedictine monk , writer and composer .

He worked u. a. in the monastery of St. Blasien . There he worked as a teacher at the convent school and from 1757 as an archivist. Kleesatel wrote poetry, plays and composed sacred music. In 1768 he left the St. Blasien monastery and worked first in Sion , later in Oberried near Freiburg.

The offertory “Illuminare Jerusalem” appeared on the CD “Festive Music from Southwest German Benedictine Monasteries” from the “ Ars Musici ” label. It comes from a series of 24 offers that Kleesatel created together with Prince Abbot Martin Gerbert . The work dedicated to Christmas requires vocal parts (choir and soloists), strings, organ and 2 trumpets or horns.
