The Remington 700 is a series of repeating rifles in various calibers that Remington Arms has manufactured since 1962 .
construction
The weapons of the Model 700 series are repeating rifles with a cylinder lock and a box magazine . The empty cases are ejected by repeating the bolt and a new cartridge is reloaded from the magazine.
The shaft consists of either grown wood, plywood or high-strength plastic and is also offered as an exchange accessory from various manufacturers.
For military and civil purposes, different open and optical sights with possibly different magnifications are available depending on the version. Optical sights such as rifle scopes must be attached to the system sleeve with special mountings. Boreholes for this are usually available at the factory.
commitment
The Model 700 series weapons are particularly widely used by law enforcement and special forces in the United States. Since 1966 the US Marine Corps has used a heavily modified version ( M40 ) as its standard sniper rifle. The US Army carries the M24 SWS (Sniper Weapon System), which is also based on the Remington 700 system.
