René Cresté

René Cresté (born December 5, 1881 in Paris , † November 30, 1922 there ) was a French silent film actor and director .

Life

He made his theatrical debut in 1901, and from 1908 he was also employed by Gaumont as a film actor . He started shooting with director Léonce Perret in 1913 and was cast in 1916 by Louis Feuillade with the title role of the masked avenger in the silent film series Judex and La nouvelle mission de Judex . These series made him known and he got other leading roles in Feuillade, including as Pierre Bertin in Vendémiaire and as researcher Jacques D'Athys in Tih Minh (both 1918).

Then Cresté fell out with Feuillade and founded his own production company. In 1921/22 he directed three unsuccessful films himself. Cresté died of tuberculosis in 1922.
