La nouvelle mission de Judex is the 1917 rolling twelve-part continuation of the silent movie - crime series Judex of Louis Feuillade via one of the first clad avenger in film history.

background

Directed by Louis Feuillade, the two crime series Fantômas and Les Vampires were created, which were popular with the public but were also heavily criticized for glorifying bandits. Feuillade responded to such concerns by creating the Judex hero who had the uncanny pomp of the flamboyant villains that were so popular at the time, thus launching the Judex series in 1916.

Judex was a mysterious avenger who was dressed in black and wore a hat and cape like Aristide Bruant , a French singer of his day. This costume is very similar to the hero costume of the later comic book hero The Shadow .

Judex anticipated the superheroes in many ways. He was a masterful fighter, an expert in disguise, and flaunted a secret seat. In the underground passages under a ruined castle, Judex had a base equipped with technical equipment. He also had a secret identity and Judex is a war name he adopted in his quest for revenge.

Due to the stylistic similarity with the other police series by Feuillade, Fantômas (1913) and Les Vampires (1915), they are mostly viewed as a trilogy.
