Surname

The Karl-Brunner-Europahaus is named after the former member of the state parliament Karl Brunner (December 31, 1889 - April 3, 1964), who was sentenced to death during the Nazi dictatorship and pardoned to imprisonment. Subsequently, he became an advocate and “European pioneer” in Styria .

In 1956, Forchtenstein Castle in Neumarkt was taken over and adapted by the European Federalist Movement (EFB). In 1956, after the Hungarian uprising, over 50 Hungarian refugees were taken in.
