René Mézangeau
René Mézangeau (Mésangeau, Mesangio, Mésengeot, Mesengé, Meziniot, Meschanson, Mesangior) (* around 1568 in Paris (?); † January 1638 there ) was a French lutenist and composer .
Life
In 1619 René Mézangeau married the daughter of the spinet maker Jean Jacquet. Around 1621 he was a musician at the court of Ludwig XIII. , the famous lutenist Ennemond Gaultier is said to have been one of his students. In his time, the lute played an important role in the royal and princely houses.
Mézangeau created numerous works for his instrument, both his own compositions and transcriptions of other works. He improved and refined the technique of playing the lute and enjoyed the reputation of the finisher of the lute technique in his day.
