René M. Schmid

René Schmid (born March 15, 1929 in Zurich , citizen of Thalwil , Canton of Zurich ) is a Swiss lawyer and cultural organizer.

Life

René Schmid attended primary school and the free grammar school in Zurich, studied law at the University of Zurich with a semester abroad at Harvard University USA. He received his doctorate in 1954 from the University of Zurich and obtained his lawyer patent in 1955.

1954 to 1956 he was a legal assistant at the law firm Gautschi & Wieler in Zurich. From 1957 to 1987 he ran an international business law firm in Zurich with an affiliated Standard Treuhand & Revisions AG. In this function he was a member of the board of directors of numerous companies in Germany and abroad.

In 1970 he and two partners organized the musical Promises, Promises by Burt Bacharach at the Theater des Westens in Berlin . He was one of the founding members of the Society of Friends of the Zurich Opera House Ballet , temporarily member of the board of IG Tanz Zurich for the planning of the Tanzhaus Zurich, from 1991 to 2003 president of the Tanzforum Ostschweiz and from 2002 to 2009 a specialist in dance at the cultural office of the canton of Thurgau . From 1991 to 1999, with the support of the Kulturstiftung des Kt. Thurgau, the British Council, the Ambassade de France en Suisse and various private cultural foundations, he organized the two multi-day international modern ballet festivals Tanz Im Thurgau and Ittinger Tanztage each year, as well as 1998 and 1999 a youth dance festival. In 2003 he organized the presentation of the company Mi-Octobre Serge Ricci at the 15th International Lake Constance Festival and, from 2000 to 2003, with the support of the Cultural Foundation of the Canton of Thurgau, modern dance project weeks in upper-level classes from Frauenfeld to St. Moritz in Eastern Switzerland.

René Schmid is married and has two children.
