René Rutschmann

René Rutschmann (born January 7, 1941 in Seuzach near Winterthur ) is a former cyclist from Switzerland and participant in the Olympic Games .

Athletic career

René Rutschmann's career began in 1957 as a member of the VC Seuzach. He immediately won the junior final race in the same year as in 1958. In 1959, he qualified for what was then the A-class for amateurs in Switzerland. In 1960 the federation nominated him for the participation in the Olympic Summer Games in Rome for the team time trial . There he took 9th place with his teammates Erwin Jaisli , Roland Zöffel and Hubert Bächli . In this discipline he started again at the 1964 Games in Tokyo and was 16 with his team.

In 1961 he interrupted his career for the recruit school . In 1963 he won the Tour of the Four Cantons and competed in the UCI World Championships both on the track and on the road in the Swiss national team. In 1964 he could u. a. win the Pruntrut - Zurich race as well as a stage of the British Milk Race . Again he was at the start of the World Cup. After the Olympic Games, he obtained a license as an independent in order to be able to take part in professional races. In 1965 he won his first national title. He became Swiss champion in the single pursuit of the amateurs after he had already finished second in 1963. In 1968 he was able to win the reservoir tour .

Professional

Rutschmann learned the profession of electrician. He suffered an accident at work in later years that forced him into a wheelchair.
