René van der Linden
René van der Linden (born December 14, 1943 in Eys , Gulpen-Wittem ) is a Dutch politician of the Christians Democratisch Appèl .
Life
Linden studied economics at Tilburg University from 1966 to 1970 . From 1977 to 1986 and from 1988 to 1998 Linden was a member of the Second Chamber of the States General . Between 1986 and 1988 he was State Secretary in the Dutch Foreign Ministry. From 1989 to 2004 Linden member of the European Parliament . Linden has been a senator in the First Chamber of the States General since 1999 . From 2009 to 2011 he was President of the Senate as the successor to Yvonne Timmerman-Buck in this chamber; he was followed by Fred de Graaf . From 2005 to 2008, Linden was also the successor to Peter Schieder as Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe , of which he has been a member since 1989.
