Renate Kaufmann (born July 18, 1955 ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and was district head of the 6th Viennese district Mariahilf from 2001 to 2014 .

Life

After Kaufmann had passed the Matura in 1973 and the teaching examination for secondary schools (German and technical work) in 1976, she worked in the teaching company until 1978. In 1978 the married teacher took maternity leave and became the mother of a daughter and a son. After further training at the WIFI in the areas of bookkeeping, payroll accounting, and cost accounting, she returned to work and worked as an IT organizer. Kaufmann has been a full-time politician since 1993.

Kaufmann held various functions in the SPÖ Mariahilf before she was elected parliamentary group leader of the SPÖ-Mariahilf and deputy district leader in Mariahilf in 1993. On May 2, 2001, Kaufmann took over the office of district head in Mariahilf.

On March 18, 2014, the previous District Councilor, Markus Rumelhart , who is openly gay, was appointed Kaufmann's successor.
