Markus Rumelhart (born September 18, 1975 ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and since 2014 district chairman of the 6th Viennese district Mariahilf .

Life

After Rumelhart had finished school at the Augartenstrasse commercial college in 1991 , he was trained as an office clerk with a focus on tax processing from 1991–1996 . From 1996 he worked in the AIDS-Hilfe Wien in counseling and support. In 2001, he switched to the Healthy Austria Fund (Gesundheit Österreich GmbH) as office manager . His professional career led him in 2007 to the umbrella association of Vienna Social Institutions as a consultant for the labor market and qualification and as a strategic partner for the labor market service and the Vienna Employee Promotion Fund.

Markus Rumelhart was one of the first openly homosexual politicians in Austria when he took office. He has been married to the doctor Florian Rumelhart (formerly Füssl) since May 18, 2019.

On May 1, 2014 Rumelhart took over the office of Mariahilfer District Chairman from his predecessor Renate Kaufmann .

The fact that Rumelhart had himself photographed in the Imam Ali Mosque with their Imam Erich Waldmann in May 2017 as part of the “Week for Career and Further Education” - a series of events organized by Viennese workers' support fund (waff), AMS, VHS and MA17 - was noticed Criticism from the FPÖ because Waldmann was one of the main speakers in the anti-Israel Al-Quds march. Rumelhart, on the other hand, emphasized that Waldmann was "a cooperative partner" and an active member of the local interreligious platform in the district, and that they only talked about better opportunities on the job market. Rumelhart's contact with Waldmann was critically mentioned in the 2017 anti-Semitism report of the Forum against Antisemitism.
