Renate Offergeld

Renate Offergeld (born December 25, 1950 in Bad Münstereifel ) is a German local politician . She has been the mayor of Wachtberg ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) since 2014 .

Education and professional career

Renate Offergeld went to school in Bad Münstereifel and Euskirchen. She worked in a company after school and later in a law firm.

Then Offergeld was Minister-Secretary for Egon Bahr , Marie Schlei and Hans Matthöfer in Bonn for 13 years . This activity prompted her to become a member of the SPD . After parental leave, Offergeld worked from 1988 to 2013 as an office manager in a law firm in Bad Münstereifel.

Political career

From 1999 to 2014 she was a council member of the city of Wachtberg, and since 2004 she has been the deputy mayor of the city. On April 25, 2014, Renate Offergeld was the first woman and the first time an SPD member to be elected mayor. Offergeld is the successor to Theo Hüffel ( CDU ) and clearly prevailed against her competitor Hartmut Beckschäfer ( CDU ) in the runoff election with 56.1 to 43.9 percent .

Offergeld was again put up for mayoral election in 2020.

Offergeld is married and has two grown children and grandchildren.
