The Rendu Glacier is a 18 km long glacier located in the US state of Alaska and the Canadian province of British Columbia .
geography
The glacier's nutrient area is between Mount Barnard and Boundary Peak 159 at an altitude of 1,400 m in the Alsek Ranges in the Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park of British Columbia. From there it flows in a south-easterly direction and shortly afterwards crosses the border into Alaska. There the glacier is located in Glacier Bay National Park in the Panhandle of Alaska. The average 1.3 km wide glacier ends just before the head area of the Rendu Inlet , a side bay of Glacier Bay .
Glacier development
In the early 1980s, the Rendu Glacier grew over a period of about a year, similar to the Carroll Glacier that is adjacent to the east . Then the glacier came to a standstill. The thickness of the glacier, which is covered by rock debris in the lower area, has been steadily decreasing since then.
Naming
The glacier was named after Louis Rendu (1789-1859), a French pioneer of glacier research.
