In 2014, the company produced almost 19 million tons of polysilicon and 3.5 million tons of silane gas at its two locations in Moses Lake , Washington and Butte , Montana .

The solar group Renewable Energy Corporation ASA , founded in Norway in 1996, was split into two independent companies in October 2013 after economic difficulties . Renewable Energy Corporation ASA was renamed REC Silicon ASA . The solar division split off as REC Solar and went public on the Oslo Stock Exchange as REC Solar Holdings AS .
