Renewables 2004
The Renewables 2004 (full name German World Conference for Renewable Energies , English International Conference for Renewable Energies, Bonn 2004 ) was an international conference for renewable energies , which took place from 1st to 4th June 2004 in Bonn . After the failure of the World Summit for Sustainable Development , the conference brought new momentum to the promotion of renewable energies.
Attendees
At the invitation of the German federal government , participants from 154 countries discussed possible ways of promoting the production and use of renewable energies. 3,600 representatives from governments, international organizations, business associations and non-governmental organizations took part . These included more than 100 heads of state or ministers from the participating countries.
In view of the very high oil price at the time , the conference received particularly high attention.
Result
As a result of the conference, more than 200 measures were adopted at the country and regional level as well as international organizations. Ministers from over 130 countries signed an agreement that renewable energies must play a key role in a future energy system and at the same time committed themselves to national or regional goals and measures. In addition, all participating countries, including the USA and Saudi Arabia, recognized in the final political declaration that "renewable energies combined with energy efficiency measures are a very important and extensively usable energy source and represent new opportunities for international cooperation". However, the states could not agree on a binding expansion target for renewable energies.
