Volkmar Lauber

Volkmar Lauber (born December 8, 1944 in Wels ) is an Austrian lawyer and political scientist .

academic career

Lauber studied law and French from 1962 to 1968 at the University of Vienna and graduated with a Dr. iur. from. His original career aspiration was a diplomat . In parallel to his studies, he worked as an academic translator in French between 1966 and 1968. In 1968 and 1969 he completed stays abroad on a scholarship, working at the two Paris- based institutions Institut d'études politiques de Paris and Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales . In 1970 he received his Master of Laws from Harvard University and was enrolled at the University of North Carolina from 1972 to 1976 . In 1977 he earned a Ph.D. in Political Science . He then became a junior professor. After further positions at the University of South Florida and the West Virginia Wesleyan College , he became an Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins University Bologna Center in 1979 , where he taught "European Studies". From 1980 to 1982 he was an assistant professor at West Virginia Wesleyan College. In 1982 he was finally appointed professor for political science at the University of Salzburg and remained so until his retirement in 2013.

In research, Lauber was mainly active in the field of energy policy . a. researched on climate policy , renewable energies and peak oil . Of particular importance was his collaboration with the Swedish political scientist Stafan Jacobssen authored and 2006 in the journal Energy Policy published essay The politics and policy of energy system transformation - Explaining the German diffusion of renewable energy technology , which in around 600 to August 2015 scientific publications was quoted . His teaching activities also included comparative political science and public policy , particularly in the fields of energy and the environment .
