Rennkampff ( Russian Ренненкампфы ) is the name of a German-Baltic noble family .

history

Jürgen Rennkamp († 1612), who was a shopkeeper and tailor in Riga and whose further origins are unknown, is considered to be the progenitor of the noble family . His son of the same name, who was also a merchant and citizen of Riga, died in 1621 in the Polish-Swedish War defending his hometown against the Swedes under Gustav II Adolf . Joachim Rennkampff (1618–1658), one of his two sons, was a professor at the city high school from 1644 and later a councilor in Riga. His grandson Franz von Rennenkampff (1678–1727) obtained the recognition of a noble descent in 1719 by the higher regional court of the Dorpater district. The nobility diploma was given to his ancestor in 1602 by Emperor Rudolf II , but was stolen by a servant. The existence of a noble diploma from 1602 was already and later heavily questioned, as no further evidence could be found. Among other things, the assumption was expressed that the alleged nobility diploma was a bourgeois letter of arms . Franz von Rennenkampff's stepbrother, Georg, tried independently of this to obtain an ennoblement and obtained on December 20, 1728 at the imperial court in Vienna by Emperor Karl VI. the award of the knighthood with the predicate "Noble von". Since then, the family has been divided into two lines, the older Palloper line (after the Palloper estate in Livonia) from Rennenkampff and the younger Helmetschen line (after the Helmet estate in Livonia) Edler from Rennkampff . The two lines carry the same coat of arms (after the nobility diploma of 1728).

The family was enrolled in the knighthoods as follows: In the Livonian Knighthood on March 27, 1745 sub No. 160 - retroactive to the year 1714, in the Estonian on July 3, 1752 sub No. 273 Class II, in the Courland sub No. 251 on March 5, 1801 for the Livonian district administrator Paul Reinhold v. R. on Kalzenau etc., Livonia, and Kuckschen, Kurland, and in Oeselschen sub no. 73 on December 8, 1845 for Georg Edler v. R. on Laimjall, or the farmer in Werder Woldemar Edler v. R. adH Sastama or 1896 for Heinrich v. R. adH Pantifer. Admission to the Prussian and Imperial German nobility took place at Potsdam , Neues Palais , on February 2, 1909 by Kaiser Wilhelm II for Karl Otto Woldemar Magnus Ritter and Edler von Rennenkampff and his brother Eduard Ernst Ritter and Edler von Rennenkampff from the Sastama family.
