Nikolai Karlovich of Rennenkampff (born September 10, jul. / 22. September  1832 greg. In Oleksandriwka , Chernigov Governorate , Russian Empire , † May 10 jul. / 22. May  1899 greg. In Kiev , Russian Empire) was a lawyer, professor , Mayor of Kiev from 1875 to 1879 and Rector of St. Vladimir University of Kiev from 1883 to 1890 .

Life

Nikolai Karlowitsch v. Rennkampff came as the son of Karl Wilhelm Franz v. Racekampff and Maria Lissenko were born to a noble family of German descent in Oleksandriwka, Ujesd Sosnyzja , in the Chernigov Governorate (today in Korjukiwka Rajon , Chernihiv Oblast , Ukraine ) and were baptized according to the Orthodox rite.

Until 1849 v. Rennkampff students at the Chernigov grammar school . He then attended the Lyceum of Prince Besborodko in Neschin and in 1851 switched to St. Vladimir University in Kiev with his teacher Nikolai Chr. Bunge . In 1856 he became a candidate in law and a teacher of Russian history at the Institute for Well-Born Misses and a teacher of law at a grammar school in Kiev. On March 23, 1859, he became a master of international law and on April 19, 1868, he became a doctor of constitutional law. On May 10, 1868 he became a full professor at the chair for the history of the most important foreign legislations of the past and present.

In 1875 Nikolai v. Racekampff was elected mayor of the city of Kiev for 4 years and was confirmed in the office of mayor of Kiev on May 8, 1875 by decree of the interior minister .

With the highest decree of the Ministry of Education No. 4 of March 1, 1883, he was appointed university rector of St. Vladimir University of Kiev and on September 16, 1884 according to the amended university statute of Emperor Alexander III. confirmed in office. Due to his requested resignation as university rector, he was dismissed from office by decree of the Ministry of Education No. 11 of August 13, 1890.

Von Rennenkampf died on May 10, 1899 in Kiev and was buried in the Baikowe cemetery .

Private

Nikolai v. Rennkampff owned a house in Kiev and was married to Anna Mikhailovna Tscherepowaja. They had the sons Wladimir (* 1862) and Nikolai (* 1870) and the daughters Olga (* 1872) and Natalia (* 1877). His son Wladimir Nikolajewitsch Rennenkampff, born in 1862, became an associate professor of public law at the Imperial Novorossiysk University of Odessa .

Honors

Von Rennkampff had been a Real Councilor of State since December 26, 1875 and on August 23, 1884 the Minister of Education awarded him the title of "Honored Professor". In addition, he received many medals and honors. Including:
