Reptyle is a gothic rock band founded in 1998 .

history

The band was founded in 1998 by guitarists Christoph "Slash" Hessel and Axel "Keule" Kuhlhoff together with bassist Frank "Hook" Maines. A short time later, Reptyle was completed by the keyboardist Andreas "Kufi" Schulze, the drummer Lutz "Ketzer" Mönkhoff and the singer Andreas "Zulu" Litschel. After completing the first demo CD Monochrome , drummer Mönkhoff left the band for health reasons. Bassist Maines was replaced by Veronica "Moci" Witte. In 2001 the EP … till life do us part was released. After another demo CD Descent to heaven and international appearances as a support act for artists such as Clan of Xymox , Ikon and Cinema Strange , the debut album A high and lonley place was released in 2004 via Sonorium . The band then continued to perform internationally and wrote new material, which was released in 2007 as the album Consequence on Équinoxe Records . Keyboarder Schulze and bassist Witte left the band after the release. Achim "Dead" Bartholdus took over the bass, and in 2008 Alexander "Diesel" Karbouj joined the band as the new drummer. Further concerts with Vendemmian and at the Wave Gotik Treffen followed . In 2011 Corruption ep was released as a 12 "vinyl via Équinoxe Records. In the same year Reptyle UK accompanied Decay on their tour of Germany. Karbouj left the band and was replaced by Roland" Kaiser "Hütte. After further engagements in the opening act for The Eden House and Bloody Dead and Sexy released Équinoxe Records' next album, Night and the River, in 2014. A music video was shot for the title track, followed by a joint tour with Sweet Ermengarde and The House of Usher and a few concerts the group. Parallel to the search for a suitable successor, further pieces were already recorded and mixed. In 2018 drummer Hütte left the band and was replaced by Gerwin Spalink in 2019. In the same year the CD-R Apolysis was released , to which the vocals by Jörg Kleudgen von The House of Usher was also contributed to the comeback concert in 2019 in the Bielefeld Lokschuppen he did the singing. On the day of the concert, the split single Hibernation was released by both bands. This also includes a song with guest singer Henning Hammoor from Alphamay . Around 3 years after Litschel's retirement as a singer, Kai Roarside took over this role.

style

The band's music is attributed to Gothic Rock. Comparative comparisons are made with The Sisters of Mercy and Fields of the Nephilim . The group is praised as part of "a handful of bands who hold up the flag of" true "Goth Rock and do not hang to the wind as appropriate". Elsewhere, the group is counted among the pioneers of the German Gothic-Rock scene after the turn of the millennium. The style of the band is unmistakable and emphasizes the aspect of rock music in Gothic Rock.
