Alphamay is an electro-pop band from Osnabrück .

Emergence

Both founding members are also members of the German rock band Rozencrantz . After a joint serious accident on May 1st, 2012, when Cris Frickenschmidt has been sitting in a wheelchair, "Alphamay" was launched - initially as a side project.

Surname

The name symbolizes the day of the accident: "Alpha" for the beginning or "1", "May" for "May". The alternative spelling АЛЬФАМЭЙ is used in Russian-speaking countries.

history

After a few experimental pieces of music and first small appearances, the first album "II III - III III - IIII II" was released in 2014 by the Osnabrück music label Timezone . Further live shows followed before the single and the album of the same name "Dazzle Camouflage" were released in 2015. The album was presented live and open air for the first time during the week of May . During this performance, the band's visual concept was supported not only by light and video installations but also by the Berlin Vogue dance group “The House of Melody”.

In 2016 the album "Twisted Lines" was released as the second chapter of the "Dazzle Trilogy". The album entered the top 10 of the DAC (German Alternative Charts) twice and received numerous positive reviews in the national and international press. Two singles were released for the album Twisted Lines. The album was extensively presented live, including the Hamburg City Tour - a tour of Hamburg clubs.

In May 2017 the album "The Simulation Hypothesis" was released. It marks the end of the so-called "Dazzle" trilogy. At the same time it forms the conclusion of the thematic orientation of the three albums of the trilogy. The release is accompanied by the band's first black and white video clip. It's the video clip for the song "Decay Of A Dream". The band presents the new album with the comprehensive "Simulation Hypothesis Tour" with more than 20 concerts and festival appearances in Germany and the Netherlands.

In May 2018 the band released the mini-album "The Mellow Collie" on the occasion of the band's fifth anniversary. The five-track work was published as a CD and music cassette, each limited to 50 pieces. Stylistically, the album picks up on the “electronic avant-garde” of the early 1990s and is reminiscent of bands like Deine Lakaien . The publication reached the top 10 of the German Alternative Charts. The single "Black Parasite", also released in May 2018, received an elaborate video that shows the Brazilian samba dancer Martinha Rainha da Bateria alongside the band . The new album was presented live on the “Beyond Simulation” club tour and at festival appearances, including at the 27th Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig.

With the single "A Silke Bischoff Tribute" (released on September 7th, 2018 on the Battersea Electric label as catalog number BE008) Alphamay are releasing two cover songs by the band Silke Bischoff in honor of the singer Felix Flaucher who died last year . After legal uncertainties, the release would be withdrawn by the band.

The album "Trans / Fusion" (published on December 10th, 2018 by Battersea Electric) is a pure remix album containing 12 songs from all previous Alphamay albums, which have been reinterpreted by other bands of the German Gothic / Wave scene. These include bands such as B. Schwarzschild, Circured and Unplaces.

On January 16, 2019 the band released the single "Follow Me" at the same time as the accompanying video clip. This was shot in the sculpture garden of the Osnabrück artist Norbert Henze .

The single "Conform Us" followed on February 23, 2019. This was presented live as part of the "Friends & Family Show" in Duisburg. A few days later, the single reached sixth place on the Turkish iTunes charts.

The "European Club Tour 2019", which took the band to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, was followed by the release of a best-of album. This double CD with the name "Ретрография" (retro graphics) was released on the Moscow label ScentAir Records. The publication was accompanied by club shows in Saint Petersburg and Moscow. On the cover the name of the band is given in Cyrillic spelling: АЛЬФАМЭЙ.

style

Alphamay mixes modern electro and future pop with elements of synth pop from the 1980s and dark / new wave elements.
