Rozencrantz is a German rock band that emerged from the band Romeo Discharge in 2003 .

history

Founding members of Rozencrantz were Skye (vocals), Horatio C. Luvcraft (bass), Lucian Shye (keyboards), Morten Hellerson (guitar) and Michelle Zagon (drums).

Before the recording of the 2005 Rozencrantz album Diary Michelle Zagon Rozencrantz left and a drum machine took over provisionally its work.

Live guitarist Kevoc joined the band as part of the production of Diary . This activity is no longer carried out by him. The American Jeffrey Delannoy, who accompanied the band for another year, was hired as the new drummer for the live implementation , and was finally replaced by "Reddark Goodwill" and the current drummer Jackie Saint.

At the end of 2006, the recording of "Salvation", the band's second album, began . At this point Morten Hellerson left the band to pursue his solo career.

The rest of the guitar work in the studio was done by singer Skye. The guest voice for this album was the singer Evangeline Cooper, who had already sung a few passages for "Diary". Carsten Klatte ( Project Pitchfork , Wolfsheim , Goethes Erben , Lacasa del Cid) and Bruno Kramm ( Das Ich ), as well as Matthias Lohmöller (Morgentot, Safkan) could be won as guest musicians for “Salvation” . In addition to his appearance as a musician, Bruno Kramm also acted as a co-producer.

Work interpretations by various international artists from a remix competition form the basis of the album "Reapercussion", which will be released in December 2007. Among other things, this album, which is available free of charge on the Internet, contains the radio play "Orbit", which is based on a short story by the Japanese cyberpunk author Kenji Siratori. the author himself spoke to the text.

In autumn 2008 the studio work on "Romancer" was started. With the musicians Jackie Saint and Gray, who had previously been used live, the two new musicians were also used in the studio. “Romancer” is an EP which, in addition to 4 new songs, also contains three video clips from a festival appearance (Castle Rock 2008) and a new video clip. It was produced in cooperation with Matthias Lohmöller, whose studio DocMaKlang was used again.

On June 8th, 2009 the new single "Chase the Dragon" was released, which contains the song of the same name and a remix of the song. This time, too, the collaboration with Matthias Lohmöller / DocMaKlang was used to record the music. The music video originally shot for the single, in which many US muscle cars were used, was shot largely on the former Hopsten air base and represents the band's most elaborate music video to date. It was released on June 29, 2009 as part of a DVD, which also contains, among other things, extensive making-of material.

After switching to the label Kitty Killer Records in the distribution of Timezone, the album "Tears Black Reign" was released on October 31, 2012. It contains 12 songs and was again produced by DocMaKlang. During the preparations for the album's release, there was a momentous car accident in which the founding members Skye and Horatio were seriously injured. Bassist Luvcraft has been in a wheelchair since that accident, but remains part of the band on stage.

The music video for the song "NYEAH" was released on September 16, 2012 and thus represents the first release from "Tears Black Reign". The video shows the band in bizarre masks and similar situations. Ironically, it shows, among other things, an accident scene with the van in which the singer and bassist of the band later had an accident.

With the release of the album “Tears Black Reign” on Halloween 2012, the video clip “Beyond Emptiness” was presented to the public. This dark video, which was shot at various locations with the Russian model "Rain" and many extras, was also completely shot, realized and edited by the band.

On November 28, 2012, the web single "Show You The Moon" was released as the third release of the album "Tears Black Reign". The song is a wistful acoustic track. The video for this song will be released on the same day. It shows singer Skye in various, sometimes absurd situations and was once again conceptualized and produced by the artistic collective Rozencrantz.

In Great Britain , "Tears Black Reign" was released on December 12, 2012 on the London underground label Avalon Records. This marks the first official physical release abroad.

On December 29th, 2012 the band played their first live show with Horatio Luvcraft at the Rockmare Festival after his serious accident in front of a sold out house. Portions of this show were broadcast on local cable TV station OS1 TV.

The year of their tenth anniversary heralded Rozencrantz with the fourth web single from the album "Tears Black Reign". The song is the dark work "Calling Maidel". The song, which lyrically deals with the forgotten American actress Maidel Turner, received a disturbing science fiction video that is somewhat reminiscent of Fritz Lang ’s Metropolis or the classic Frankenstein template and with green screen scenes in which the band members are in the foreground Scenes from old stag movies in the background connect rounded. This clip was once again realized with own funds with the support of the advertising agency Comudex. At the press conference for the “Calling Maidel” release, the band announced a Best Of CD and a new studio album for the current year 2013.

The video clip for the title song of the album "Tears Black Reign" was released on April 7, 2013 as the fifth video single on the album. As usual, this video was also made by the band and people close to them. Various musicians who are friends with the band can be seen in the background of the band scenes in this clip.

Singer Skye and bassist Horatio begin their side project " Alphamay ", an electro-pop band.

The album "The Best 10 Years" was released on May 17, 2013 as the band's first " Best Of Album ". It is unusual that in addition to the expected old material, it also contains pieces from an album “Drunk On Revolution” that was only released in 2014.

After the tour in the UK, the sixth video single for the album "Tears Black Reign" was released on November 30, 2013. The clip for “Blood Runs Like Wine” deals with current political issues, in particular freedom of expression, and contains, among other things, film material by the Russian band “ Pussy Riot ”. The band members acted as newscasters reporting on a wave of terrorism.

On January 15th, 2014 Rozencrantz released the video for the song "Into Silence" as the first video single for the album "Drunk On Revolution", which was released later that year. The video consists mainly of aerial photo sequences that were filmed by members of the band with a quadrocopter . With its positive, summery images, this clip also underlines the far-reaching changes the band has made away from their roots in goth rock.

Shortly before another guest performance on the May week in Osnabrück as the headliner of the Timezone stage on the opening day, a live recording from the previous year was posted as a video. The clip shows the song "Born In The Night".

Even before the album "Drunk On Revolution" was released, a pre-print of 1,000 copies was distributed free of charge to fans at the 20th edition of the Hunteburg Open-Air Festival . At this event Rozencrantz played with Emil Bulls and Madsen, among others .

In mid-June 2014, the "Revolution Box", limited to 100 copies, was released again on the Timezone label. This metal tin contains the albums "Salvation", "Tears Black Reign", "The Best 10 Years" and "Drunk On Revolution" as well as an autograph card and sticker. Each jar is numbered and signed by hand. A "Deluxe Edition" of the box, which is limited to 10 units and also contains the EP "Romancer", is available exclusively in the label's shop. This special version bears the serial numbers 91–100 of the original edition.

The album "Drunk on Revolution" was released on October 31, 2014 on Kitty Killer Records, distributed by the Timezone label. The recording took place again in the DocMaKlang Studio, and Matthias Lohmöller was used again for mix and mastering . The release of the album is accompanied by various videos, including a making-of video in which you can see in fast motion how the band is making the cover for the new CD, inserting the CDs and putting together the "Revolution Box" and sealed.

Drummer Jackie left the band in mid-2016. Rozencrantz decide to continue working without a permanent drummer and work on a new album. Lucian Shye and Horatio Luvcraft change instruments.

In February 2017 the mini album "The Vacuum Of Silence" will be released. It is an album of five tracks recorded with acoustic instruments.
