Requiem (Webber)

The Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1984 as a requiem mass in memory of the father of the composer William Lloyd Webber , written († 1982). In 1986 the work won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition.

The work is set for choir, three soloists and chamber orchestra with organ and synthesizer.

Andrew Lloyd Webber renounces the gradual and tract of the funeral mass. In the Sanctus he uses the old liturgical division into two parts (Sanctus / Hosanna - Benedictus). The work also includes the motet Pie Jesu , which was common until 1970 and is no longer used in the liturgy of the funeral mass, as well as a text from the funeral service Libera me .
