Research Papers in Economics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) is an open access project that started in 1997 and with hundreds of volunteers from 99 countries (as of 10-2018) has set itself the task of spreading scientific publications in the field of economics and related disciplines to advance.

concept

The core of the project is a decentralized database through which working papers , preprints , magazine articles from specialist journals and software components can be accessed. RePEc does not provide the full texts themselves, but the bibliographic information. However, through further links, over 450,000 items are currently accessible online in full text. Although most articles are free to download, the copyright remains with the authors.

The special thing about RePEc is that bibliographic information from unpublished material is also collected and made accessible. This volunteer project depends on the participation of both individuals and institutions. Scientists who belong to an institution without a RePEc archive can publish their publications via the Munich Personal RePEc Archive (MPRA).

Scientific publishers such as Elsevier , Springer or Oxford University Press list their publications from the economic sector in RePEc. Research Papers in Economics is linked to the EconLit database of the American Economic Association and thus increases accessibility, since the publications can also be found using external search queries.

Repec rankings

Internal statistics show which articles have the most downloads and, for example, a ranking of the 25 most popular of the over 50,000 authors is created. In January 2019, Andrei Shleifer , James Heckman and Daron Acemoğlu took the first three places.
