The Resolution 2046 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously in the 6764th meeting on May 2 2012th It was brought in by the United States and dealt with the ongoing violence between Sudan and South Sudan .

The resolution called for the immediate cessation of all hostilities in Sudan and South Sudan, a complete withdrawal of troops and an end to the support of armed rebel groups by the conflicting parties. All " hostile propaganda and the provocative statements in the press " should be stopped immediately. It also demanded a written declaration from the two states within 48 hours to comply with the resolutions of the African Union (AU) and the UN Security Council and to start negotiations within the framework of the AU within two weeks.

The resolution threatened sanctions if the two warring parties did not comply and referred explicitly to Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, which regulates economic restrictions and the deployment of UN troops.

The Security Council also set a deadline for the two conflicting parties to draw up a peace plan by August 2, 2012.
